Who did, does and will use Smart Beta - an annual investigation into smart beta usage across Europe. Key themes: For most investors, smart beta is about control, with 63% of users* agreeing it offers greater control over factor exposures than other investments. It is transparent and upfront about what it does and delivers the agreed factor exposure according to the rules built into the underlying methodology. Smart beta can provide a simple ready-made solution for those who wish to gain asset class exposure and potentially achieve desired outcomes. Usage is already pronounced, but momentum continues to build over time with average smart beta portfolio allocations currently at 11% and expected to rise to 20% within the next three years. Users are following up on their intentions to increase their future allocations, shown by our year-on-year responses. * Smart beta ‘users’ are defined as respondents who have invested in smart beta strategies while ‘non-users’ are those that have zero allocations.
Factor investing - In the thousands of securities within a portfolio, there are broad and persistent drivers of returns called factors. These factors drive returns within and across asset classes, markets and countries. Factors have been studied as a concept since the 1930s, and whilst there are many factors that are well documented, there are only a few factors that have delivered higher risk-adjusted returns than the broad market over the long run: quality, momentum, value, small size and minimum volatility. Each of these factors has prevailed in certain market environments. In this session we will deep dive into which factors have performed well during particular market events, such as the Euro debt crisis and financial crisis. While the road ahead is difficult to navigate, historical factor performance may help guide us as we look into the future.
European Investor Research: Smart Beta - a tool for precision and control - The evolution of Smart Beta usage versus the previous year. Key reasons for investing in Smart Beta. Implementation of Smart Beta / most used strategies. Positioning Smart beta with end investors. Key observations and future usage across Europe.
Fixed income - The bond world can be challenging. Inflation, interest rates, company security can all be a challenge for investors. Nevertheless there are opportunities out there for investors willing to get involved. This presentation will break down the world of bonds, look at the current environment and what areas are best placed to benefit.

PowerShares was founded in the US in 2003 on a vision of delivering investment performance through the benefit-rich Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) structure. In January 2006, PowerShares expanded its vision by becoming part of Invesco Ltd, whose global presence took the Invesco PowerShares story beyond the US. When the first ever ETF was launched in 1993, its purpose was simple — to track the S&P 500 Index while trading on a major exchange. Since then, many traditional ETFs have been designed to mirror a number of different benchmark indices. Not all ETFs, however, seek to simply track a measure of a market. Invesco PowerShares offers a selection of ETFs that track “next generation” indices: indices that go beyond merely tracking a particular market. These indices attempt to outperform the performance of a particular market through intelligent security selection and weighting. Invesco PowerShares is part of Invesco Ltd., a leading independent global investment management company dedicated to helping people worldwide build their financial security. www.invescopowershares.co.uk Important Information: This corporate description is for Professional Clients only and is not for consumer use.
